Following on the dramatic confirmation by the Myanmar Thailand M6.8 Earthquake 24th March of Piers Corbyn's (WeatherAction) Long Range warning of HIGH RISK of a major Earthquake 23-27 March WeatherAction is producing further trial forecasts of Severe Earthquake risk.

Piers Corbyn (5 APRIL) said: 

"The 6-9th April is our first major (Trial) Earthquake risk period of April and comes with related extreme weather events forecasts. In these trial periods we expect an increase in the serious M6.0 and above quakes in quake vulnerable locations (and related increases in lower level activity*) around the world such as the Pacific 'ring of fire'. This includes the WEST USA which in this time period is probably more vulnerable than for decades.

* including of course more/larger aftershocks from earlier Quakes

5th April, there was: 


- a peak in Disturbance storm index (Dst),
- solar wind speed went up
- a 5MeV proton burst and 
- proton flux went up.

These are good timings for extreme weather (~6-7th) and earthquake (~6-9th) events

That site has also noticed an increase in 'unexpected' auroral activity in the last few days. There is more to the solar wind than standard measures of it!

shows Earthquakes reports. Below we list recent M6.0 and above (Japan in brackets because of general disturbances there). The higher numbers are rarer. M7.0 has ten times the displacement and 32 times the power of M6.0 etc.

On average an M6.0 or above (mostly at the lower end) happens every ~2.4 days or so somewhere in the world.

Its obviously impossible at the moment to predict exactly where an earthquake will occur as its too hard to determine the critical point when a plate will rupture. at least by Piers methods it can predict that a major quake may happen at a certain time and if consistently successful could be used to alert the most vulnerable zones.

Hugh, yes the activity is significant compared with background because (i) The Mexico quake M6.5 is much more powerful + rarer than M6.0 & (ii) The Japan quake was the biggest since the giant one + multi-shocks on 11th March; maybe just put Japan below 6.5 in brackets or note more/larger aftershocks is a measure which went up; the evidence is clear... Mark, Well I agree about earthquakes & first experienced one (tiny) as an exchange student in - guess?! - Tokai Japan nuke facility 1968. These are trials & come from our Solar-Lunar-Action-Technique 6a which was firstly for weather & we will carry on trials. Others have had some success in the past & continue to do so as far as I can see (see notes in other quake thread 23-27Mar) but I am unclear about consistency & likely over-forecasting. As far as money goes this work is totally unfunded & attracts interest but basically no subscribers. I hope this note might urge some to become such!! Piers
